Bars


BROWNIES

Brownies are usually made with a lot of butter. This recipe has very little fat and it is still tasty.

½ cup Sylvan Border General Purpose Flour
2 tablespoons unsweetened gluten-free cocoa
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon xanthan gum

Blend and set aside.

2 ounces unsweetened chocolate squares
1 tablespoon butter or margarine

Melt in a double boiler or over low heat. Remove from heat and add:

1 cup sugar
1 egg plus 1 egg white
6 tablespoons applesauce
2 teaspoons vanilla

Stir until smooth. Add dry ingredients and stir until blended. Pour in an oiled 8-inch square pan. Bake at 350° until brownies pull away from the pan, 22 to 24 minutes.
